Cosmetics FAQs

I have a product that’s not mentioned in the Table of Cosmetic Product Categories. Can it still be a cosmetic under the new reforms?

Under the NICNAS Cosmetics Guidelines, Table A, the table of Cosmetic Products is not exhaustive. It is a list of product categories and uses that are commonly considered cosmetics in Australia, but is not an exclusive list of all products that are permitted as cosmetics.

If a product meets all of the requirements of the ICNA Act and Cosmetics Standard (the NICNAS Cosmetics Guidelines provides guidance on the requirements under the ICNA Act and Cosmetics Standard) then it will satisfy the definition of a cosmetic in Australia.

The Table of Cosmetic Product Categories will be updated periodically to reflect current practice.
