Importing and Manufacturing Chemical FAQs

I want to import a chemical that has been approved as a food additive by FSANZ. Do I still need to notify NICNAS if I intend to use the chemical in industrial applications?

Yes. Reformulation process and exposure scenarios may differ for workers using the chemical as a food additive and those using it in cosmetic formulations, for example. Further, environmental exposure may be of importance in industrial processes and the chemical will need worker safety and environmental risk assessments (this is not undertaken for food additives).

Companies, organisations, government departments and individuals may enroll for a free email alert to notify them when the current issue of the Chemical Gazette is loaded onto the web site. Hard copies of the Chemical Gazette are available free of charge from NICNAS, on request.
