Registration FAQs

I am a formulator. Are NICNAS Registration requirements relevant to me?

The most important thing you have to check is whether you are manufacturing an industrial chemical. Usually, formulating, mixing or blending does not lead to a chemical reaction. As the chemicals resulting from the process are the same as the ones you started with, no chemicals have been manufactured. NICNAS Registration therefore does not apply to the process.

Where formulated products are concerned, NICNAS Registration applies when you do any of the following: import the finished products; import the chemicals used for formulating these products; and/or manufacture the chemicals, which are then used for formulating these products. Some examples of products, which involve formulating or blending, are paints, cosmetics, and cleaning agents.
