Consultation Arrangements

NICNAS employs a broad range of consultation approaches in engaging with stakeholders including multi-stakeholder consultative committees, broad public consultations on proposals, public meetings, written submission processes and participation in scientific, industry and community events.

The Director in managing NICNAS consults regularly with NICNAS’ two primary advisory committees under their existing terms of reference:

  • The Industry Government Consultative Committee is consulted on matters of resource utilisation, the efficiency and effectiveness of NICNAS’ operations and compliance strategies.
  • The Community Engagement Forum is consulted on strategies to improve public access to health, safety and environmental information about industrial chemicals, stakeholder engagement policies and reform activities.

In addition the NICNAS Industry Engagement Group provides a two way discussion forum for technical matters, particularly in relation to notifications for new chemicals.

NICNAS is actively exploring options to improve consultation mechanisms particularly for stakeholders outside the major population centres, including taking advantage of electronic technologies.

NICNAS’ Consultations page provides details of current and past consultations.
