Framework Development - Consultation

Since 2008, NICNAS has worked extensively with stakeholders and technical experts to develop a framework for the assessment and prioritisation of chemicals on the AICS (as illustrated in Figure 1). Over 10 options have been explored.

The primary stakeholder consultative group, the Implementation Steering Group (ISG) consisted of members from the community, industry and government (Commonwealth, state and territories). This group was supported by a Technical Working Party (TWP) and two expert groups one concentrating on environmental matters and the other on human health.

Additional consultation processes were utilised to explore mechanisms for obtaining and utilising information that would assist in determining the potential for exposure of public, workers and environment to chemicals on the AICS. This included an industry consultation workshop and subsequent multi-stakeholder and expert workshops.

NICNAS will also continue to work with key stakeholders as part of preparations for implementation and during implementation.
