Reporting to NICNAS Annually

Under sections 21AA and 40N of the Industrial Chemicals (Notification and Assessment) Act 1989, a person introducing a new industrial chemical under certain permits, certificates or exemptions in a registration year is required to provide a report to the Director, NICNAS, stating the name and quantity of the chemical that was introduced.

 

WHO NEEDS TO REPORT?

Organisations who have introduced new industrial chemicals under an Exemption or certain Permits & Certificates in any part of the previous registration year will need to submit a report.

Permits and Certificates
Organisations who have been issued one of the following New Chemical Permits/ Certificates need to submit annual reporting data online. Permit/Certificate details are pre-populated in the online Annual Reporting Module to facilitate reporting:

  • Commercial Evaluation Permit (CEC); and/or

  • Low Volume Chemical Permit (LVC); and/or

  • Controlled Use Permit (CUP); and/or

  • Self Assessed Assessment Certificate (SAPLC).

Exemptions
Some low regulatory concern chemicals are exempt from notification to NICNAS even if they are new industrial chemicals. Most exemption categories have an Annual Reporting obligation. If your Organisation has introduced (imported or manufactured) a new industrial chemical under one of the exemption categories below you need to submit an annual report at the end of the NICNAS Registration period ie 31 August:

REPORTS DUE BY
Under the Act, Annual Reports must be submitted to NICNAS by 28 September for new chemicals introduced during the previous registration period (1 September to 31 August).
