A summary of targets and performance for AICS searching is provided in Tables 22 and 23. The time required to complete an AICS search varies considerably depending on level of information provided for the search and the complexity of the chemical structure. Over the last year the complexity of search requests increased. This reflects the fact that industry only seeks NICNASs paid searching facility for complex chemicals (ie. those too complex to do a free web-based self search).

To provide a comprehensive response, additional research by NICNAS was required. As a result there is an apparent decrease in the timeliness for all categories. A review of the internal timeframes was undertaken and more realistic internal timeframes have been agreed for 2006-07.

The number of chemicals searched by NICNAS increased from 413 to 521, attributable at least in part to NICNAS compliance and promotional activities.
