NICNAS operates on a 100 per cent cost recovery basis. Cost recovery is achieved in two ways:

o NICNAS Registration fees and charges, and

o fees and administrative charges for new chemical assessments.

In 2005-06 NICNAS Registration monies funded the assessment of existing chemicals, client awareness, education activities, compliance and legal activities and the administration of NICNAS Registration itself.

Total funds cost recovered from industry in 2005-06 were $8,324,459. At 30 June 2006, NICNAS had a reserve total of $2,550,848 resulting from net cost recovered funds, available for carry over into 2006-07.
