In 2005-06 NICNAS finalised its full implementation of changes to legislation on registration of introducers of relevant industrial chemicals (refer to Compliance section of this report for full details) resulting in some 1385 new registrants.

Table 5 (below) provides a breakdown of 2005-06 registrations compared to the previous year.

As at 30 June 2006, there were 5675 registrants listed in the Register of Industrial Chemical Introducers. This is an overall 26 per cent increase in the number of registered companies from June 2005 . Due to the high volume of lower level registration, additional administrative expenses were incurred to manage the increase in the volume of changes, such as new registrations, renewals and non-renewals

Many enquiries were received during the year about NICNAS Registration: 2250 by telephone and 711 in writing. NICNASs performance in responding to these enquiries is detailed in Appendix 06.

At 30 June 2006, there were 396 non-renewals advised; these are companies that did not need to renew their Registration for 2005-06.
