The Science Forum was established in response to the Chemicals and Plastics Action Agenda call for enhanced mechanisms for best practice risk assessment. The aim of the Forum is to assist regulators within the Health portfolio to identify and deliver best practice approaches to health risk assessment and management of chemicals.

Science Forum IV and Science Forum V were held in Canberra in August 2005 and December 2005, respectively. Science Forum IV was coordinated by Office of Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) and focused on gene technology issues. Science Forum V Endocrine disruptors: a human health problem? coordinated by NICNAS and OCS brought international and national experts and researchers together to exchange information on up-to-the-minute research on phthalates and their safety issues.
