NICNAS operates on a full cost recovery basis. Cost recovery is achieved in two ways:
In 2006-07 NICNAS Registration monies funded the assessment of existing chemicals, client awareness, education activities, compliance and legal activities and the administration of NICNAS Registration itself.
Total funds cost recovered from industry in 2006-07 were $8,586,938 – including the $521,000 government funding for interest supplementation. At 30 June 2007, NICNAS had a reserve total of $3,268,968 resulting from net cost-recovered funds, available for carry over into 2007-08. See Management and accountability for details of an audit of NICNAS’s cost recovery activities.
