As a result of concerns raised with NICNAS through public enquiries and the media on the use of methyl methacrylate (MMA) in cosmetic nail preparations, NICNAS prepared submissions to the NDPSC in order to introduce public health controls. NICNAS recommendations on the scheduling of the chemicals ethyl methacrylate (EMA) and MMA used in cosmetic nail preparations under the SUSDP were considered by the NDPSC and one outcome was the prohibition of MMA for cosmetic use.

A chemical listed in the SUSDP entry by default includes preparations containing the chemical at any concentration and all salts and derivatives, unless otherwise specified.
