There was considerable attention paid during the year by NICNAS to enhancing its assessment capabilities and integrating best practice assessments with comparable international standards.

By formalising arrangements with Canada, and working with other counterpart agencies in the United States of America and Japan through the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development’s New Chemicals Task Force, NICNAS has taken opportunities to influence and work collaboratively on assessment methodologies such as alignment of the polymers of low concern criteria and screening approaches.

The arrangement with Canada under the provision of foreign schemes was also put in place this year for standard notification and limited notification categories. Work has also progressed on polymer of low concern templates, including discussions with Canada on aligning the templates.
