A new Australian Cosmetics Standard, supported by changes to the legislation and detailed in a new NICNAS Cosmetics Guideline, sets requirements for certain cosmetics formerly regulated by the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
Before introduction of the new standard, the cosmetics industry was given early access to its requirements, with an audit held this year into the levels of compliance.
Overall, there was a high level of compliance. Unresolved issues were managed in accordance with NICNASs enforcement policy. Cosmetics auditing will be incorporated into future compliance work plans.
Introduction of the new standard during the year was accompanied by a considerable training and advisory effort delivered to industry by NICNAS.
