NICNAS participates in the OECDs High Production Volume Screening Information Data Set (SIDS) program.
This provides a mechanism for OECD member countries to share hazard assessments of high production volume chemicals, those manufactured or imported at amounts of more than 1000 tonnes per year.
NICNAS participates at SIDS initial assessment meetings (SIAM) that discuss existing industrial chemicals and provide input into the hazard assessments conducted by other countries.
The reports agreed within the OECD high production volume program are used as a basis for national priority existing chemical reports, such as those prepared by NICNAS, and other existing chemical assessment products.
This shortens assessment times, reduces the resource burden on Australian industry and delivers greater international consistency.
