The Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade promotes shared responsibility and cooperative efforts among its Parties in the international trade of certain hazardous pesticides and industrial chemicals.

This is achieved by assisting information exchange about chemicals and pesticides characteristics to protect human health and the environment from potential harm.

NICNAS provided advice to the Australian delegation to the fourth meeting of the Conventions Chemical Review Committee on two notifications for the proposed listing of chrysotile asbestos in Annex III of the Convention. The Review Committee concluded that neither notification met the criteria for listing in Annex III.
